Fashion warning: tents and sacks

26. February 2007 | Category What-to-Wear?, Trends | 0 Comments »

tenst and sacksIt would seem that the 80’s are back this season. Everywhere we turn there are batwing tops, smocks and baggy dresses. The problem is that these kinds of baggy clothes can look like tents or shapeless sacks if not worn in the right way. You are best suited to this trend if you are skinny, though wear with caution. Try to combine baggy items with tighter items such as leggings and show off your waist with a belt. Curvy woman, ie anyone with a bit of meat on them, should probably avoid these items. If you have bit of a stomach these kind of clothes can disguise it but only if the rest of you is quite thin. Make sure you show off your other assets.

Sandals for thick calves and ankles

24. February 2007 | Category Shopping, Ankles, Calves, Trends | 0 Comments »

Spring is almost here and we can start thinking about wearing sandals here in Holland. I hate wearing shoes that hurt my feet and it would seem most fashionable shoes double up as instruments of torture. It has been my ongoing mission to find fashionable, attractive shoes that don’t hurt. Some shoe companies are catching on. Clarks has a great collection this coming season. I bought some Clarks shoes last summer and I loved them so much I could have married them (though my fiance wasn’t too impressed when I said this). They are beautiful and it’s like walking on air when I wear them. Anyway this spring strappy sandals are back in and I’m hoping these sandals are as comfortable as they are beautiful.

Too much cleavage?

When Esther and I were in the changing room, I thought this dress looked great but Esther thought she was showing too much cleavage. She wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing this dress without something underneath it.cleavage

Prints and Esther

21. February 2007 | Category What-to-Wear?, Waist, Breasts | 0 Comments »

Esther is happy with her breasts but less happy with her stomach and arms at the moment. We picked out these dresses for her. A high waistline detracts attention away from the stomach area while the V-neck is great for women with larger breasts. Longer sleeves of course cover up the arms. This is more the case with the dress on the right. The orange and brown dress is from Oasis and the green and purple dress is from Warehouse.

Which dress works the best for Esther?

Chantal’s look is simple but gorgeous. The jacket (H&M) has a great shape. The combination of brown boots with black is very in but I especially love the big green vintage Adidas bag.

Covering up the bump with print

18. February 2007 | Category What-to-Wear?, Stomach, Trends, Print | 0 Comments »

Print dresses with a high waist are the latest trend. This is great news for those of us with large stomachs or in my case pregnant. I tried on a couple dresses from Warehouse. Let me know what you think.

Pregnancy Fashion Gripes

14. February 2007 | Category Humour | 0 Comments »

Ok, so only pregnant women should model maternity clothes. I’m getting fed up of seeing normal models with a cushion strapped to their stomachs modeling maternity clothes. You see some of you may not know this but it’s not just your belly that grows when you’re pregnant it’s like nearly everything! Getting bigger boobs was kind of fun but when I went to put on my trousers today I could hardly get them on. Not because of my large stomach, no, because of my huge behind!!! It’s really confronting. People keep telling me I’m also getting a healthy round face i.e. a double chin. My boyfriend tells me I’m beautiful… note… no longer sexy (ok maybe I’m a bit sensitive). By the end of this pregnancy I will have experienced many different body types these past 2 years so I’ll be following my own advice. It’s loose fitting trousers, pencil skirts and tailored dresses for me for now. Embrace the big butt.

Amal looks fab in black. Her clothes are simple and tailored but it’s the accessories that really make this outfit. I love the black and white hat and scarf. Amal finishes off her look with the essential items for this season a big leather bag and ankle boots.
