White is in fashion…..stain remover anyone???
White is one the main trends for the summer, unfortunately is doesn’t stay that way for long with me. I put on some white trousers the other day and as I was walking out the door I noticed a stain. Who knows where from. Literally within the space of 5 minutes I had a huge grey stain.
I thought I was looking especially good the other day with a my beautiful light blue skirt and and a white jacket. I was on my way to a meeting with a client when my friend and collegue informed me I had an orange stain on the cuff. Probably from dinner the night before. I had to try to remember not lift my arm for the entirety of the meeting. Annoying! I have many more stories involving white tops and red wine. You can guess how they end.
I’m sure I’m not the only one with problem. I’m also interested to know if there is actually someone who can wear white without getting covered in crap.

Ahhh yes! Just yesterday I donned a white cardigan to wear to work. I bought it a couple of months ago and tucked it neatly into my sweater drawer. It was safe there, but I decided it was time to take it out to see the world.
Over the course of the day, I glanced down occasionally to scan for stains. Amazingly, I was approaching the end of my work day and I was still stain-free! I even managed to eat a Quarter Pounder with cheese without getting a drop of food on my little white sweater. “Wow! I’m such a champ!” I thought to myself. But right after I silently congratulated myself on my newfound ability to wear white, I hugged one of my students who happened to have a little ketchup lingering on the side of her mouth. Damn! Now there was a smear of ketchup on the front of my angelic little sweater.
But it was a busy day and I marched on. I got home from work, took the dog for a walk in the park and then raced to meet up with my friend for a happy hour drink. No time to change. So the cardigan and the ketchup came with me. And the happy hour rolled into dinner, which rolled into a late night out. As the evening wore on, my stain defenses came down and by the end of the night I no longer cared that I was wearing white.
This morning, I took a look at my sweater. What a disaster! It looks like I rolled around on the floor of the bar before coming home. (Which I am fairly certain I did not do.) The whole sweater is overcast in grey and flecked with streaks of darker grime. I will wash it and try to restore it to its former white self but, who knows, I may just need to throw the cardigan out.
I decided that, for me, white clothes are just too high maintenance. Maybe if I quit working, give away my dog and stop socializing with friends, I could wear white clothes and give them my full attention. But for now, I will have to pass on the white trend.
